OUR GOALS IN 2026:

LIBRARY

We opened the community's first public school library in 2025, and are currently running a Reading Culture training series for students, parents and teachers.  Funding this program is vital, as is continuing to stock the library with age-appropriate and relevant books!

With every $500, we can order a pallet of 400+ donated books from our partner organization Books2Africa in Dar es Salaam. These are books that have already been donated from abroad, and are housed in a warehouse awaiting a place to be shipped.  A $1,000 donation can cover a delivery of books from our regional supplier in Nairobi, Nuria Books, a mutually beneficial arrangement where we are also supporting African authors who self-publish and will be paid directly after our order.

TEACHER TRAINING

4 years ago, we began partnering with Education Progress Initiatives to deliver teacher trainings to our staff at Kisimani.  The results have been exceptional.  Kisimani continues to consistently rank #1 academically in the region, with every student passing the required exam to continue to secondary school.  And now we are ready to scale!

The success at Kisimani academically is undeniable proof of concept that student-centered teaching methods and positive behavior management strategies are possible to implement in classes of 100+ students, with little to no teaching aids and resources.  In a country where corporal punishment still occurs on a daily basis in other schools, we want to help teachers at other schools learn these same skills.

We are seeking organizational and grant partners to help design and implement a 3-year national outreach program with the vision of eradicating corporal punishment in schools.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Buy all the items on our teachers' wishlists, and surprise them with an end of year bonus to thank them for going above and beyond their expectations as public school teachers.

When budget allows, we bring in school supplies in bulk (paper, pencils, art supplies, markers, tape, etc..) from regional suppliers.  With over 1,700 students, the cost adds up quickly.

A school supplies set for one primary school student (pencils, sharpener, eraser, colored pencils, basic watercolor paints and crayons) can be purchased locally for about $20.

At the end of the year, our non-profit matches the monthly salary of each teacher and pays a thank you bonus to show our appreciation and support for these teachers who deliver exceptional results in challenging circumstances.
